Once in a while, a technology comes along that completely revolutionizes a sector. For networking, that innovation is SD-WAN.
For network managers, the death of the traditional WAN cannot come soon enough.
SD-WAN AND CLOUD
Distributed enterprises are now leveraging software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) services with the aim of achieving agility without compromising performance, security, and reliability, observes Peruri. “Traditional WAN architectures are not designed to support the new consumption model of apps efficiently; access to apps residing in the cloud must traverse inefficient paths resulting in wasted bandwidth, additional cost and higher packer loss and latency impairing user and business productivity. Organisations also can’t efficiently connect users to applications utilizing a traditional WAN architecture, where management tends to be rigid and complex, and networks adds and changes can be lengthy,” adds Bhaskar Peruri, Regional Manager at Silver Peak.
